Frances has been working with fabrics for all of her professional life. After earning a bachelor’s degree in textile design at Boston University, she headed to New York City where she worked for two leading textile companies. She next shifted her focus to custom tailoring then patternmaking for the apparel industry. Later she also taught tailoring and patternmaking at The Fashion Institute of Technology. Moving to Maine in 1992, Frances designed and produced a line of pieced fabric pillows and framed “pictures” as well as a collection of women’s clothing. The Maine Dog Inedible Biscuit Company, a line of dog biscuit shaped gift items, followed. Since 2001 she has been fabricating custom window treatments, slipcovers, cushion etc. for interior designers and individuals throughout Midcoast Maine. Projects range from a canvas curtain for a lobster boat to velvets drapes that encircle an entire media room, floor to (hand painted) ceiling. Frances was delighted to be a part of the renovation work at the Strand Theater in Rockland and Elan Fine Arts gallery in Rockport. Frances lives in an 1848 cape in Warren Village that also houses her studio. When not sewing, she can often be found hiking in the woods with her dog, Vicente.
